		<description>Search at Frontify

Designing a scalable, trustworthy search system for a complex brand platform

Background

Frontify serves 1M+ monthly active users, and search had become critical infrastructure — not just for findability, but for user confidence and trust. Research showed two distinct needs sitting side by side: nearly half of users relied on search when they didn't know where content lived, while the other half used it as a faster shortcut to somewhere they already knew. Search had to support both exploration and efficiency without becoming overwhelming.

&#60;img width="4956" height="2787" width_o="4956" height_o="2787" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/614cf2c68d8996ac692c178b225b022f94093ea63834b2fc74e44bae30ed9493/search-AI.png" data-mid="244055480" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/614cf2c68d8996ac692c178b225b022f94093ea63834b2fc74e44bae30ed9493/search-AI.png" /&#62;

The challenge

Before the redesign, search was showing classic signs of a system that had outgrown its design. As content types multiplied — assets, guidelines, text — users lost clarity about what they were even searching. Separate contextual searches fragmented the experience, and exact-match logic with incomplete indexing eroded trust further. More technical power hadn't translated into more confidence: people were disengaging after the first set of results. The real risk wasn't usability — it was that people had stopped trusting search as a reliable decision partner.

Search after redesign

My role

I led this end to end as Design Group Lead — problem framing, research direction, interaction and system-level design, and the key UX decisions made across Product, Engineering, and Research. Beyond the screens, I owned how decisions got made, validated, and scaled across teams.

&#60;img width="3840" height="2160" width_o="3840" height_o="2160" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/de80f45004aedbe7d83182908aa9fceb3fe59478a4e49aadb39faa7b2eecf256/Asset-preview.png" data-mid="244055477" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/de80f45004aedbe7d83182908aa9fceb3fe59478a4e49aadb39faa7b2eecf256/Asset-preview.png" /&#62;

Key decisions

One entry point, not five. Contextual searches forced users to guess where to look before they'd even started. Rather than just improving labeling or fully merging everything into one undifferentiated experience, I introduced a unified, command-style search — one global entry point, accessible via keyboard shortcut from anywhere. The system handles scope complexity; the user just starts typing.

Transparency over "smart but invisible." As indexing expanded, the system could technically surface far more — but people couldn't tell why a result appeared, or why one was missing. We deliberately avoided magical, opaque automation in favor of predictable ranking, clear result labeling, and consistent patterns across content types. The goal was confidence and learnability, not surprise.

Discovery without taking control away. Research showed many users had no idea when editors added or updated content. Search was designed to surface new, relevant content intentionally — without auto-navigating or hijacking intent. It became a collaborative assistant, not an autonomous one.
&#60;img width="4956" height="3000" width_o="4956" height_o="3000" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/10e16200b831d75f528b03cb395e7bab0cdfbd04c62551a273cb1af02b28ecb6/search-starts.png" data-mid="244055478" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/10e16200b831d75f528b03cb395e7bab0cdfbd04c62551a273cb1af02b28ecb6/search-starts.png" /&#62;

Accessibility as a system requirement, not a finishing touch. Full keyboard navigation, tested against accessibility standards with external validation, built in from the start alongside Engineering and Research.

Impact

+10% increase in search engagement, driven by improved trust and clarity
Higher task completion and deeper engagement with results
Reduced confusion between content types and scopes
Search evolved from a background utility into a core, trusted entry point to the platform

System-level outcomes&#60;img width="4956" height="2787" width_o="4956" height_o="2787" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/614cf2c68d8996ac692c178b225b022f94093ea63834b2fc74e44bae30ed9493/search-AI.png" data-mid="244055480" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/614cf2c68d8996ac692c178b225b022f94093ea63834b2fc74e44bae30ed9493/search-AI.png" /&#62;

This work produced more than a redesigned feature: a set of interaction principles and decision frameworks now shared across teams, and a foundation that safely supports the AI-powered and agentic capabilities built since — including the Brand assistant and AI Organiser.

		<description>AI Brand assistant

Designing a trustworthy AI agent for brand governance and decision support

&#38;nbsp;
Background

Brand guidelines are complex, fragmented, and underused. Users struggle to find relevant rules, understand how they apply to their context, and verify compliance. A conversational interface was a natural fit — but it introduced real risk: a confident, wrong answer could directly damage brand integrity.

&#60;img width="2175" height="1226" width_o="2175" height_o="1226" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/76bded9d3b4ab8dc184c13df407c98e0c72839ff71f5d0acb364e912958a46b9/BA-design.png" data-mid="250763606" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/76bded9d3b4ab8dc184c13df407c98e0c72839ff71f5d0acb364e912958a46b9/BA-design.png" /&#62;

The challenge

This was never a technical feasibility problem — it was a trust problem. How do you stop an assistant from sounding certain when the answer is ambiguous? How do you keep the user in control instead of quietly outsourcing the decision to AI? How do you make the system's reasoning legible and contestable?

Early pilot data made the stakes clear: only 10% of users were satisfied, and 70% had no strong opinion either way — the assistant worked, but it hadn't earned credibility.

My role

I led design end to end — from concept to release — working closely with Product, Engineering, and Research. Beyond the UI, I defined the agent's boundaries, shaped its conversational behavior, and set the principles for transparency, confidence calibration, and user control that the rest of the team designed against.

Key decisions

A collaborator, not an authority. Early versions answered confidently even when guidelines were genuinely open to interpretation. We redesigned responses to reference source guidelines explicitly, surface uncertainty where context mattered, and prompt users to confirm rather than just accept — preserving agency instead of inviting blind trust.

Visible reasoning. Users couldn't tell why the assistant said what it said, which quietly eroded confidence. We made responses surface their sources, the specific guideline sections referenced, and the assumptions behind the answer.
&#60;img width="3800" height="2400" width_o="3800" height_o="2400" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/f254661a62eb02810517e9950dc366f645e1a7a7c34b372ee3ab7dcd43bd302c/BA-Reasoning-states.png" data-mid="244056864" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/f254661a62eb02810517e9950dc366f645e1a7a7c34b372ee3ab7dcd43bd302c/BA-Reasoning-states.png" /&#62;

Calibration through iteration. A limited pilot surfaced exactly where the assistant felt too vague, too confident, or not actionable enough. Iterating on tone, structure, and response patterns significantly improved satisfaction and engagement, leading to a full release within the year.

Beyond Q&#38;amp;A

The assistant is now extending into natural-language asset search and conversational discovery — positioning it as an entry point into the platform, not just a chat window. I also explored how organizations could customize its tone and visual identity, reinforcing it as an extension of the brand team rather than a generic AI layer.

&#60;img width="4956" height="2787" width_o="4956" height_o="2787" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/3772528ecd79c316e81eed9219c462b4db1ed7b2fdfc05bfd14118eead511273/search-AI.png" data-mid="244057003" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/3772528ecd79c316e81eed9219c462b4db1ed7b2fdfc05bfd14118eead511273/search-AI.png" /&#62;

Impact

Simplified access to complex brand guidelines through conversation
Improved compliance by supporting informed, contextual decisions rather than blind ones
Increased engagement by cutting friction in asset discovery and guideline navigation
Established reusable conversational patterns and AI behavior principles now used across Frontify's other AI features

		<description>AI Organiser

Designing guided agentic action inside a Digital Asset Management platform

&#38;nbsp;

Background

Frontify's DAM (Digital Asset Management) holds large, often messy libraries of brand assets. Organizing them — sorting into folders, applying structure — is manual, repetitive work that most users put off. We wanted to test a different hypothesis entirely: could a conversational agent do this work for the user, instead of the user doing it through traditional UI?

This is an active experiment, not a conventional feature build. The underlying question isn't "does this feature work" — it's "will people trust and adopt a conversational interface over a familiar UI for real DAM tasks."

&#60;img width="3238" height="1920" width_o="3238" height_o="1920" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/aa24a0034759d56a67ae9393dbdcd4494cef215455285b24faaab29ea73df81d/AI-Organiser-start.png" data-mid="250764097" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/aa24a0034759d56a67ae9393dbdcd4494cef215455285b24faaab29ea73df81d/AI-Organiser-start.png" /&#62;

The challenge

The Brand assistant had already taught us how to design AI that answers questions responsibly. The Organiser is a harder problem: this agent doesn't just talk, it acts — moving real assets in a real library. That shifts the design question from "is this response calibrated?" to "how much autonomy do we hand over, and how do we make sure the user never gets surprised by what the agent just did?"

We landed on a guided execution model: propose → confirm → execute. The agent never moves anything without an explicit user confirmation step, no matter how confident its analysis.

&#60;img width="3238" height="1920" width_o="3238" height_o="1920" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/420b84eb6075baf9eb77a8fa7b41a395d8616ca30aad26dfacc0aacad93607fc/AI-organiser-01.png" data-mid="250764095" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/420b84eb6075baf9eb77a8fa7b41a395d8616ca30aad26dfacc0aacad93607fc/AI-organiser-01.png" /&#62;
My role

I own agent behavior design, the language and communication system, and cross-surface coherence for this feature — working alongside a DAM designer (who owns the UI container and interaction shell), an agent-behavior/backend designer, a frontend engineer, an AI engineer, and PM/tech lead. The split kept two hard problems — "does the shell feel native to the DAM" and "does the agent feel trustworthy" — with clear, separate owners.

&#60;img width="3238" height="1920" width_o="3238" height_o="1920" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/e19bad2b0ccd6b3b77fdf7261c4de047ad333709487dfc3c23bb508c2b8ce92b/AI-organiser-02.png" data-mid="250764096" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/e19bad2b0ccd6b3b77fdf7261c4de047ad333709487dfc3c23bb508c2b8ce92b/AI-organiser-02.png" /&#62;
Key design decisions for MVP

Selection as the entry point, not natural language. Rather than asking users to describe which assets to organize, the agent reads whatever the user has already selected in the DAM. This sidesteps a genuinely hard agent problem — resolving vague language into specific asset IDs — by letting the UI do that work for free.

The selection snapshot. One subtle but important behavior: the agent reads the current selection at the moment a message is sent, not continuously. This raised a real edge case — what happens if a user changes their selection after a plan is proposed, then just says "proceed"? We decided the agent must detect the mismatch and re-confirm before executing, rather than silently acting on a stale plan. Small decision, but it's the difference between an agent that feels safe and one that quietly does the wrong thing.

Scoping confirmation for MVP. Rather than building a dedicated editing UI for adjusting a proposed plan, we kept the edit loop entirely conversational — the user can just tell the agent what to change, in plain text. This kept the MVP lean, though it means we're deliberately deferring a fuller structured-confirmation experience (which would need meaningful frontend/backend investment) until we've validated the core hypothesis.

Deciding what not to build yet. Every MVP scoping call was a trust-vs-speed tradeoff: no chat history (kept per-library instead of global), no auto-clear of selection after a move, undo deferred to open beta. Each of these was a bet that we could learn from a narrower experience before investing in the fuller one.

		<description>Logo for a team at Google
Redefining the visual identity for Crosstie, a team within Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).

Crosstie: the team and its meaning
Crosstie, sometimes stylized as X-tie, stands for Cross-TI Execution (TI meaning Technical Infrastructure). The name “Crosstie” also refers to the wooden piece that connects the two rails of a railway track, symbolizing connection and support. Before the redesign, the team used a grayscale, old-fashioned drawing of a railway track section as their logo, which no longer reflected their dynamic and forward-thinking mission.
References and Concept Development
To create the new logo, I drew inspiration from two key sources:
 The overarching SRE organization’s logo to ensure alignment with Google’s visual identity.
The imagery and symbolism of crossties, which not only inspired the team’s name but also represented their purpose of connecting and enabling cross-functional execution.

&#60;img width="2620" height="900" width_o="2620" height_o="900" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/27d602474c9b6d6d3c423576c38c60f65a89631a59708f5e2a75b4e919341c4a/Screenshot-2023-08-30-at-11.47.13.png" data-mid="189280871" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/27d602474c9b6d6d3c423576c38c60f65a89631a59708f5e2a75b4e919341c4a/Screenshot-2023-08-30-at-11.47.13.png" /&#62;During the design process, I discovered that the letters “T” and “I” could be visually tied together using the concept of a railway track. This idea became the foundation of the new logo.

&#60;img width="2620" height="944" width_o="2620" height_o="944" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/567d4568be3dce2fd4e261c40f2b1220af114b7cbce55f4d3b625cc49ff5919d/Screenshot-2023-08-30-at-11.47.06.png" data-mid="189280858" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/567d4568be3dce2fd4e261c40f2b1220af114b7cbce55f4d3b625cc49ff5919d/Screenshot-2023-08-30-at-11.47.06.png" /&#62;The final logo
The redesigned logo symbolizes a crosstie and reflects the team’s mission on multiple levels while adhering to Google’s visual identity guidelines. It represents connection, execution, and alignment with the broader SRE organization.

&#60;img width="1004" height="890" width_o="1004" height_o="890" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/e79efdf8964b92bfbbe236778a29f6425cb5d957a3d4c72e9fdae97d7b85d5c7/Screenshot-2023-08-30-at-11.47.35.png" data-mid="189280890" border="0" data-scale="54" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/e79efdf8964b92bfbbe236778a29f6425cb5d957a3d4c72e9fdae97d7b85d5c7/Screenshot-2023-08-30-at-11.47.35.png" /&#62;

ImpactThis work was submitted for an internal logo competition at Google and won. The Crosstie team now uses this logo internally, giving them a modern visual identity that better represents their purpose and aligns with Google’s design standards.

		<description>Risk and Compliance Transformation
Promoting user-centric innovation in a traditional top-down organization with a long history.
I’ve enabled users to perform risk assessment supporting complex, mission-critical functions of a business.

This project is subject to NDA therefore no visuals could be shared in a public space.

Challenge
The challenge was to champion a user-centric innovation agenda in an environment where projects were predominantly mandated by regulators. Additionally, overcoming a corporate culture that leaned towards a "solution-first" approach rather than embracing an innovation mindset of "problem-to-be-solved first" required turning a reactive process into a proactive one.ApproachWe gradually upgraded the methodology by introducing higher standards through different steps. This involved setting user research standards and using checklists and templates to make processes scalable beyond the design team, ensuring consistent and efficient outcomes.
We conducted user-centric design trainings in various formats across the organization, aiming to promote the use of vision workshops and product roadmaps throughout the company.Outcome
User research has become a crucial part of many innovation projects. We have seen a substantial increase in workshop requests. Senior sponsors strongly back design thinking and require new projects to prioritize user needs. <description>Seafishtrade
Visual identity for a fish trading company – we made fish trading look cool.

&#60;img width="1400" height="1999" width_o="1400" height_o="1999" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/ae63c085fa6fab02230ef5ca5f1d7a6379ef62cfe994792d294f6c8617cb6c59/SFT.png" data-mid="228643213" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/ae63c085fa6fab02230ef5ca5f1d7a6379ef62cfe994792d294f6c8617cb6c59/SFT.png" /&#62;

In 2016, as part of the team at Landor, I played a key role in creating a new visual identity for a small B2B fish trading company. From shaping the brand strategy to designing and producing various brand assets, I was deeply involved in every stage of the project, ensuring the identity aligned with the company’s goals and vision.
Impact2 years after the new identity launch trade volume has increased by 15-20%, with the new identity playing a key role in enhancing the company’s professionalism and building greater business confidence.

Background
Seafishtrade is a successful European trader of frozen at sea fish products operating in West Africa, Europe and China. Their identity underserved the true advantages and values of the company, making them look obsolete and traditional, like the rest of the industry.IdeaRedefine the company’s core message to effectively communicate their purpose and create a bold visual language that bounds the fishing community. As the sea, the graphical approach never stands still reflecting the young and dynamic spirit of the company while building on their core business.

Result
The client reported that since the launch of the new identity in January 2018, they have received only positive messages from partners, banks, and buyers stating that they, too, are on the same wave with them.
 To date, trade has increased volume by 15-20% compared to last year. The new identity is plays a big role and is emphasizing the company’s professionalism and building more confidence to do business with them.

The Siberian Route, also known as the Tea Road, was a historical path linking European Russia to Siberia and China. This collection of bronze souvenirs draws inspiration from the Siberian Route, celebrating the people associated with the tea culture along this significant journey.

Flat figures, 40x50 mmSamovar
A samovar (Russian) is a heated metal container traditionally employed to heat and boil water. Symbolizing the culmination of tea transportation from China to Russia, the samovar stands as the most prominent representation of tea drinking in Russian culture.

Kuday-Mergen
Mergen (Tatar language) refers to a skilled hunter and archer, while Kudai signifies territorial affiliation. Represented here is an archer adorned in traditional attire, escorting carts carrying precious cargo—tea. This figure also serves as a guide along the journey.

Kuday-MergenAyal
Ayal (Kyrgyz language) translates to "lady." The depicted lady represents the countries of Central Asia, including Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. Central Asian tea culture is distinguished by the use of pialas and specific furniture such as low tables (dastarkhan) and low seats, known as sufa.
